COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS
StubHub, Ticketmaster and Eventbrite are a few of the key players in the $50 billion online ticketing space. Research indicated that StubHub excelled in a variety of areas including their ease of use, capabilities and searchability. Ticketmaster was strong in these areas as well and Eventbrite had a great local focus.
After speaking with a five ticketing app users, numerous statements were compiled to gain further insight into what other ticketing apps do well. Common pain-points were pinpointed including the ticket sharing process and the challenge of navigating an unfamiliar venue. Analyzing the data gathered allowed for the creation of two user personas. Each persona faced a unique challenge that the new Altitude Tickets app would need to solve.
Statements
“One person buys tickets all at once, but reimbursing and passing out tickets is tricky.”
“Food and drinks are part of my event experience, whether that’s before, during or after.”
“I want to search, buy, sell and store my ticket(s) in one place.”
“It can be difficult to find bathrooms, vendors and my friends at crowded venues.”
PERSONAS
To get a better understanding of the journey that Anne and Jake would be embarking on, stepping into their shoes was crucial. This allowed for creative soultions and additional problems to present themselves.
Combining takeaways from the competitive analysis, user interviews, personas and journey mapping, allowed for the sketching of focused solutions based on data to begin. The hand drawn sketches led to a better understanding of the recommended solves. Features that wouldn’t work were thrown out and the most effective ideas were combined to create the initial prototype.
Utilizing Sketch, functioning prototypes of the proposed Altitude Tickets app were wireframed and tested with potential users. These tests provided some amazing feedback and prompted noticeable adjustments to the design. Features including a ticket selecting modal were modified, while others, such as explore nearby, were scrapped all together due to usability issues and a lack of interest.
Low to mid-level fidelity wireframes are displayed below. Initial attempts at the ticket selection experience are shown.
APP MAP & USER FLOWS
